'Treat game'
The prosecutor, prosecuting, described the defendant's actions to the court.
She said his those affected were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a summer program which he operated.
The man conducted a "sweet game" with the minors, Mrs Prior said, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and ask them to consume candy "rapidly".
She stated to the judge Ruben had engaged in this activity with the children "over an extended period", and youngsters had previously become sick the following morning.
She said the man had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had worries in recently.
Mrs Prior KC continued: "Recently" his family member had worries about what was going on, for good reason.
"They resolved" to have a look in the man's possessions."
Mrs Prior KC stated objects including baby oil, petroleum jelly and injection devices were found, and his stepson notified the law enforcement about his worries.
She stated Ruben continued to engage in the "candy game" with six boys that evening - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the following morning.
"The police had not arrived by that point," she continued.
The police watchdog, the investigative body, earlier informed that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.
The legal representative said the children were unable to walk properly due to being ill, so Ruben's stepson called the police again.
She explained the man then played the "sweet game" in a room of five youngsters.
